Review of Mastema Album ‘Close To Breaking’

At first listen, Mastema’s album ‘ Close to Breaking’ has a natural earthy originality to it.  It’s gritty vocals (Chris Johnston) and grungy feel puts me in mind of a new Nirvana.
The strong no holds barred delivery throughout the album just works, along with the groovy laid-back vibe.  Simplicity is the key to this album.  The smooth, free-flowing drum rolls pay testament to this, making it an instantly easy listen.
A classic sound that just grows on you.  This is what I’d call ‘ good old-fashioned back to basics rock ‘n’ roll’.
‘Close to Breaking’ could be the soundtrack to the summer.
