Disconnected Souls – ‘Divergence’

Taken from their debut EP, ‘Warring Elements’, Disconnected Souls now unleash a keyboard and vocal version of ‘Divergence’, one of their most popular tracks. Performed in its raw state, this version of ‘Divergence’ is intended to reflect DS’s song-writing and production styles, enabling a glimpse of the band’s full potential.

‘WE’ is also being re-launched, on limited edition CD, globally, on 10th September 2021.

Combining metal, classical and electronic, DS now incorporates additional genres, including rap. Thematically, ‘WE’ explores 2 diametrically conflicting forces, trying to figure out their world, examining good, evil and all points in between.

The track ‘Shatter’ features numerous guest vocal contributors, within the Choir of Souls.

Produced at Sawdust Recordings, by Christoph Wieczorek and Factory Studios, by Andy Fernihough.

Session drummer – Alex Lacey. Kalimba – Felix Hughes.

Divergence – Unexpectedly poppy intro, but with some sophisticated underlying chords. Quite Celtic sounding vocals. They could do with more volume and greater confidence injecting into them, but there’s an intriguing gothic tone within them, too. A few impressively high pitches hit, but although it’s unquestionably melodic, there’s a distinct lack of clarity. The pleasant melody does help to ameliorate that, somewhat, but it needs a lot more power. Whilst this is designed to present the track, in its most bare, back to basics form, the under confident approach and overly quiescent delivery doesn’t do the track or the voice the justice its clear potential deserves.

5/10 *****

For fans of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil.
