Chaska – ‘Nymph Of The Lake’

Peruvian world metal/Latin American band, Chaska introduce their track, ‘Nymph Of The Lake’.

Founded in 2002, Chaska have produced material, consistently, ever since. That’s only one of their continuous achievements, though; of which, there are many.

These include: opening for Sepultura; featured music and associated video, on the film, The Light On The Hill; featuring on Metal Hammer magazine’s compilation album, ‘Songs Of Injustice’; participating in the first World Metal Congress, London; bagging a prize, of 2 track recordings, in a regional band competition and performing alongside Primal Fear, Death Angel, Moonspell, Annihilator, Rhapsody, Arkona, Saratoga, etc.

‘NOTL’ follows 2003’s self-titled EP, 2007’s ‘Bicolour Cannibalism’ EP, 2009’s debut album, ‘Pururauca’ (Mythic Metal Productions), 2015’s single, ‘Winter Night Heights’, (as featured in TLOTH), 2016’s re-issued ‘Pururauca’ album; this time, via Xaria Music, 2017’s compilation, ‘Everlasting Night’ (Inti Records), ‘WNH’s associated video, that same year, 2020’s live videos, for ‘NOTL’ and ‘BC’, plus the re-re-issued ‘Pururauca’ album, on tape; now via Disturbio Producciones and finally, 2023 cemented a deal, with Inverse Records, for the launch of the forthcoming 6 track EP, ‘Rites Of June’, slated for later, this year.

Nymph Of The Lake – Cymbal hits and a prominent steel string riff intro, closely followed, by banging drums and an infectious piccolo chorus, like a banshee’s wail. Melancholic vocals haunt the atmosphere, while the sonics keep it strong. Deathy growls lead on, from there. The full complement’s like a whirlwind of sound; amplified, to the max. A quiescent bass bridge brings a softer emphasis. Gentler vocals follow, retaining that haunting aspect. A full electric accompaniment takes it to the next level. Drumming suddenly intensifying, towards the ¾ mark, as a new deeper woodwind section appears. The heightened piccolo tones return, adding more to the buzz, with their enchanting shrillness. As the riffs scream towards the end, with a beautiful wah touch, the whole arrangement unites, in blissful metal harmony. That’s one immensely powerful song and its enrapturing enough to take you right into the midst of the scene. You’ll want to hear this, again and again. A sonic wonder, fusing fantasy and natural backdrops, with Celtic heart and full force heavy metal. A tricky sound to pull off, but they’ve done it, flawlessly. Exhilarating, invigorating listen.
